My response was "Sometimes it is the most intelligent conversation I can find."
The reason I have found over the years is that it is easy to think an idea is great, especially in one's mid, is that until one actually says it or writes it down. Writing it down sometimes becomes a poor source of validation because the more educated we are the more fascinated we become with the verbiage vice the ramifications of an idea. It plays to that ego that wants to think how very smart I am. Ergo my use of talking to myself because it is far better to visualize for me and put it in the air above me and manipulate, change and extrapolate. This was especially useful when I was a Analyst.
It also helps to take a pre-existing idea say feminism's justification for abortion and substitute the word Black, Jew, et al every time one sees the word "fetus" utilized. This is one realize how horrifying and heinous an idea actually is and says a lot about the person or group that espouses that idea. This works well for many of the Left's ideas on every issue. Substituting helps one toe recognize the fallacies.
Sam L. is correct in that the more educated or intelligent a person thinks they are the more liable they are to believe in the efficacy of truly bad ideas. That is why academe is the only place where truly bad ideas live forever, i.e, Marxism, Social Justice, et al.Dennishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14962996070458991675noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8078379512095504946.post-33807611854564579622015-02-05T19:19:40.693-08:002015-02-05T19:19:40.693-08:00re: Kimball responds by asking: What is Obama’s “p...re: Kimball responds by asking: What is Obama’s “precise strategy” for defeating terror? In truth, as the evidence makes clear, Obama has no strategy. Or better, his strategy is to say he has a strategy, regardless of the fact that his actions belie his language. One suspects that Obama actually believes what he is saying.

Umm... I thought the obvious answer is that you can't defeat a noun (terrorism) or a feeling (terror).

On the other hand, in politics everyone on all sides uses nouns and feelings to manipulate a point of view that pretends clarity of sides when there is no such thing.

Okay, yes, if you want to start holy wars, you definitely need good rhetoric:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cpPABLW6F_A "Either you're with us, or your with the terrorists."

But anything else, I'm just not so sure.Ares Olympushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09726811306826601686noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8078379512095504946.post-61615585581945445812015-02-05T12:44:35.259-08:002015-02-05T12:44:35.259-08:00I'm sure some commenters will disagree with th...I'm sure some commenters will disagree with this post, but as I've heard before, the worst impediment to knowledge and progress is "what you know that just ain't so".
