When a national disaster comes, instead of helping I am pretty sure he's gonna do more damage than goodDereknoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8078379512095504946.post-12571511584448870212010-05-28T13:55:38.115-07:002010-05-28T13:55:38.115-07:00I certainly think that presidents can get in the w...I certainly think that presidents can get in the way, though I recall that Bush was in New Orleans after Katrina a lot more often than Obama has been.

I don't think that Obama really understands how to manage his image. It really is not the time to look like you are out having fun.

I think that the ceremonial presence of the president is most important. Obama is getting in trouble with people like Carville for looking like he just doesn't care.

I second your thoughts about Bobby Jindal. He has been present and accounted for, and, when he talks, as you say, he always seems to have control over the situation.

I know some people who have been involved in Louisiana politics, and they have told me that Jindal is a truly impressive leader.

Maybe he will now be able to overcome that speech he gave in 2009.Stuart Schneidermanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12784043736879991769noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8078379512095504946.post-49501116819352689582010-05-28T13:19:32.635-07:002010-05-28T13:19:32.635-07:00Sometimes the tour of a president can cause more s...Sometimes the tour of a president can cause more stress on the rescue operations than do any good, so I would give a little discretion to how fast a president physically tours a disaster site.

The resources of the govt. to respond to any major crisis consist of a small number of FEMA employees (est. 2-3% of the DHS), and many volunteer and non governmental groups, or like the sheriff of the Texas county replied when asked how his county handled Rita so well, "you got to possse up" ; network. The Clinton admin. did institute the push pack system and when tested using large private firms that excel in logistics (Walmart, etc.) practice response times were good. When tested using govt. alone, poor.

The media and Obama have previously suggested that government can mitigate every problem, and so well dressed people stand in line complaining after a hurricane that they cannot get a bottle of water.

A better comparison than Obama/Bush, is Obama/Jindal. Jindal is impressive in when he gives a press conference during the opening salvos of disasters. He gives the impression of having his ducks in a row, or giving the impression he knows how to posse up.

Is it a sign from God that he is not pleased? I don't think so, but if you are Louis Farrakhan and believe Obama was selected, you may begin to wonder.

Obama is probably one of the poorest presidents in having the ability to appropriately and swiftly read and respond to the public after a disaster or somber event. I think he is an ordinary man who cannot rise to the level of action extrodinary events require.Ralphhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06320105485736052679noreply@blogger.com
