It is unwise to absolve anyone from the temptations of fitting in. It's very human. But it's a lie if people think being tolerant gives them carte blanche to be socially accepted. If being intelligent is associated with being open minded to the point of being a moron, that's where our supposedly intelligent elites will eventually find themselves. Our leftist political figures sound like morons. It's about fitting in. Liking Syrians is cool. Let's try to be cool. Or would it be wrong to assume all Germans are violent if some are?

http://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/oct/17/henriette-reker-german-mayoral-candidate-stabbed
----------
The German chancellor, Angela Merkel, has expressed shock over the stabbing of a political ally, in an attack police said was linked to the migrant crisis.

Henriette Reker, an independent close to Merkel’s ruling Christian Democrats (CDU), suffered serious wounds to the neck in the attack in the western city of Cologne, which is to elect its mayor on Sunday, on Saturday morning.

Police arrested the attacker at the scene, with regional police chief Wolfgang Albers describing it as a political act linked to the fact that Reker was “responsible for taking charge of refugees” in the city, the fourth largest in Germany.

The attacker, a 44-year-old unemployed man, “said he had a racist motivation for committing this act”, Cologne police official Norbert Wagner told a news conference.

Reker was said to be in a stable condition after the attack, which took place at a CDU information stand in a market. Four other people were wounded in the incident, one seriously.

Merkel “expressed her shock and condemned this act”, a spokesperson said, while the interior minister, Thomas de Maizière, called it an “appalling, cowardly” attack.

The violence took place as Germany struggles with a huge influx of Syrian asylum-seekers whose numbers are expected to reach between 800,000 and a million by the end of the year.

The chancellor’s open-door policy has provoked a backlash among her conservative allies and sparked protests from the far right.

Justice minister Heiko Maas condemned the attack as “an unimaginable and abominable act”, while regional president Annelore Kraft said it was an “assault on democracy”.

Reker is seen as standing a good chance of securing the mayorship of Cologne, Germany’s fourth-largest city with 980,000 inhabitants.
----------

Or I guess you could say she gained a political advantage in her blood loss, getting elected mayor the day after she was stabbed. Fortunately knifes are (sometimes) less fatal than guns.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henriette_Reker
----------
Henriette Reker (born 9 December 1956) is a German lawyer and independent politician. She is known for her pro-immigration stance and for being the victim of an assault in 2015. A day after the attack, Reker was elected mayor of Cologne after gaining 52.66% of the votes. She is the first female mayor elected in Cologne's history.
----------

Is this start of a German civil war?!

I suppose immigration could be one of those issues that can critical divide a country, and I admit a precautionary principle seems sensible.

If 25%+ of the people are against the refugees, that's not something to ignore.
Ares Olympushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09726811306826601686noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8078379512095504946.post-31990293298670304902016-01-08T07:11:55.005-08:002016-01-08T07:11:55.005-08:00Apparently Ares Olympus knows all that is going on...Apparently Ares Olympus knows all that is going on and how these Syrians speak pigeon German. Of course the fault lies with racist Europeans and (conservative) Americans. Nothing to see here. folks! We will just let another million Muslims from the backwards ME in next year. Just make sure your daughters know where not to go in their country and make sure they dress modestly. Celebrate diversity, dontcha know? Dormez bien braves gens, Ares and his brilliant liberal buddies have it all under control.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8078379512095504946.post-30923354792216308352016-01-08T06:36:50.788-08:002016-01-08T06:36:50.788-08:00Well said, Stuart!Well said, Stuart!Marshhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16250976248077712248noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8078379512095504946.post-17992732007220580142016-01-08T05:22:09.860-08:002016-01-08T05:22:09.860-08:00The more I hear the more strange the story becomes...The more I hear the more strange the story becomes. What sort of person says "I am Syrian, I must be handled in a friendly manner."

Is this just bad soap opera dialogue?

In the ordinary world criminal activity is called criminal activity. But when cultural or racial or religious hysteria arises, crime is apparently a chance to let fears and imaginations go wild, assume we know what happened, and condemn the innocent with the guilty.

Whatever else is true, drunken mobs are dangerous places, and criminal behavior happens from all races, all cultures.

And if we find a few dozen ISIS provocateurs trying to incriminate all Syrians so they world will reject them, then they appear close to mission accomplished.

Now all we need is some vigilantes neo-nazis or blue-eyed thugs to beat on some innocent refugees, and the Conservatives in America will be cheering for the good old Nazis showing how real men act.

It does seem like we're in an especially fearful period, perhaps something in the air. And with the internet every in the whole world can participate in their own version of this madness in their own minds.

Soon we'll have President Trump and he'll make us all safe again, or great I mean. It's all about feelings, knowing who to hate, and who will protect you.
Ares Olympushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09726811306826601686noreply@blogger.com
