Limbaugh on Trump on Cruz

Today's quotation of the day...

Limbaugh on Trump on Cruz:

My questioning here about the way Trump has gone off Cruz here, calling him a maniac, refusing to work with people in the Senate, the reason I’m focusing on that, folks, ’cause that’s so unlike Trump. I mean, that’s a huge mistake.

On paper it’s a huge mistake. Trump gets away with his mistakes. Such is the bond of loyalty that his support base has for him that he gets away with them. And I don’t think he’s made that many. Don’t misunderstand …. But for any of you who are holding out hope that Trump is a genuine conservative. A genuine conservative, even in the Republican field, would not go after Cruz this way. So that just raised a red flag for me, made me somewhat curious.

Later Limbaugh added that Trump:

… decided to go after Cruz here in the way the establishment Republicans go after Cruz, in the way the media goes after Cruz, in the way the Democrats go after Cruz,” Mr. Limbaugh said. “He’s essentially put on his John McCain hat here and is saying: ‘I’m Donald McCain, and I’m the guy that can cross the aisle and work with the other side. Ted Cruz can’t.’ I was kind of surprised by that.

  1. Yes, agreed, Trump is not a "genuine conservative."

So in some imaginary world, where Trump was elected president, he'd be closer to Ronald Reagan (who also was not a genuine conservative), and George W. Bush (who also was not a genuine conservative), after having his little huff-fest speeches, he'd work with whatever leaders existed in the House or Senate, Republican or Democrat, and get something done because Trump wants things done.

In contrast Cruz, the genuine conservative, can never ever be elected president of the United States, because too many people in positions of power dislike him. That's the mainstream narrative, and Trump is taking no risks in repeating it.

And Cruz is hoping that when the Trump mystique that he'll be the flavor of the month that becomes the 2016 endorsed candidate, and he'll get the chance to lead the genuine conservatives into a third Obama term as president of the United States.

On the other hand, if Cruz was the republican nominee, we'd actually have an honest left-right debate, and Cruz's ability to say equally false things as Trump with a straight face is an asset, makes them equally impressive.

I'd go wth a Cruz-Trump ticket, genuine on top, but I don't expect Trump will agree to playing second fiddle.

  2. What caused me to laugh was Trump's comment described him more than it did Cruz.

  3. I was thinking the same thing. I wonder why no one has noticed that before.

  4. What does it do for the narrative that Trump is out of control or a maniac when he not only heeded what Rush and Levin had to say, but admitted he did on national TV?

What Trump is doing may feel out of control to you (Stuart) and others, but it is not. He refuses to play by the rules the media and the left has made for candidates. He's ripped them up and is winning the nomination.

Of course he will make mistakes ( what candidate doesn't?) But, he's not making many. The man is focused like a laser beam on the prize. And he works harder than ANY candidate running. Try looking at what he's doing right and you'll begin to see exactly what he's doing. And it isn't out of control.
