This is an age of extreme narcissism.

A woman I know mentioned that she went to a therapist...after a bad breakup, I think...but never went back. She said it was just too boring to talk about herself so much.David Fosterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15464681514800720063noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8078379512095504946.post-20309994158207407592021-03-30T09:39:26.267-07:002021-03-30T09:39:26.267-07:00Oh, I think there is a market opportunity here. A ...Oh, I think there is a market opportunity here. A big one. I'm of the opinion there is a large subset of people who just want to be "listened to". Take, for example, the friend who bombards you with her complaints about, well, everything. Your responses of "hmmm" and a nod now and then are all that are required. Of course, this isn't therapy but it is probably close enough for many people.

And as David suggested above, a well-conceived algorithm would make such a system a real moneymaker. It would only need lots of money for marketing and a few techies. I can imagine our blog host would be perfect as a consultant for this project.jmod46https://www.blogger.com/profile/02727446883638344885noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8078379512095504946.post-47727269624489893972021-03-30T08:45:08.718-07:002021-03-30T08:45:08.718-07:00I would theraPUNT my therapist if he/she/it...well...I would theraPUNT my therapist if he/she/it...well, I don't have one. It was extremely simplistic, only about 250 lines of code, but many people evidently found it convincing. Weizenbaum's secretary asked to be left along with it to discuss some problems she was having, even after Weiz had explained to her that it was all trickery.

Internet version here:

http://psych.fullerton.edu/mbirnbaum/psych101/Eliza.htmDavid Fosterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15464681514800720063noreply@blogger.com
