Happy New Year; It's the Year of the Rabbit

Today is Chinese New Year’s, and I want to wish everyone a happy and healthy New Year. As you may know, the new year is the Year of the Rabbit.

According to Chinese astrology, the Rabbit signifies good fortune, good manners, grace, and etiquette. It is a time for negotiation and diplomacy, tranquility, peace and beauty. Link here.

As we recall, last year was the Year of the Tiger, though, come to think of it, it did not seem to do Tiger Woods very much good.

I am hardly an expert in Chinese astrology; in truth, I know nearly nothing about it. Nevertheless, I cannot stop myself from thinking that the Tiger is a great predator, while the Rabbit, in comparison, is more like prey. For a Tiger, a Rabbit would be what the French call: an “amuse bouche.”

The Year of the Rabbit means that fortune is going to smile on all of us. I will confess that I am less optimistic: we seem to be leaving a year where we were all feeling like tigers to one where we will all be feeling like we are running for our lives.

While contemplating that metaphysical reality, we should also look ahead into the future. There we discover that, coming fast after the Year of the Rabbit will be: the Year of the Dragon.

The astrologers tell us that the Year of the Dragon will be filled with radical change and transformation, of passion and enthusiasm, of high risk and great potential reward.

If the Year of the Rabbit is too tranquil for your taste, you have something spectacular to look forward to.
