As I have often suggested, true believing Freudians are cult
followers. This means that they have sacrificed their rational faculties on the
altar of unshakable conviction.
The truest of the true believers, those who belong to the Lacanian
movement and the Wholly Freudian Church repeatedly mouth phrases they do not understand,
the better to affirm the truth of their conversion.
Unthinkingly, they believe that Freud’s myths, accompanied
by Lacan’s elucubrations thereupon are gospel truth.
Had they given the matter some thought they might draw
different conclusions.
Consider Freud’s myth of the primal horde. True enough,
Freud believed that it was a fact, but this merely shows that Freud could not distinguish fact from fiction.
In Freud's myth, the human community was initially structured like a
patriarchal tyranny, with one father possessing all the women. This man refused to
allow his sons any sexual access to their mothers and sisters
The tyranny was such, Freud posited, that the sons banded
together and rose up to smite the first father, thereafter to consume his warm,
dead body, cannibalistically.
Recent research from Saudi Arabia suggests that they did not
need to go to so much trouble. If they had had a little patience, the
tyrannical first father would have died… from heart failure.
The Daily Mail has the story:
Having
a wife can improve a man's chances of a long life - but having more than one
can seriously damage his health, research shows.
A study
into the health effects of polygamy has found men who had up to four wives were
nearly five times more likely to suffer heart disease.
Previous
research has shown that people who are married suffer less stress, are
physically more active and have a better diet….
The
research showed that men who practiced polygamy had a 4.6-fold increased risk
of coronary artery disease and a 3.5-fold increased risk of Left Main Disease -
narrowing of the left main artery.
They
also had a 2.6-fold elevated risk of Coronary Microvascular Disease, which
effects the walls of small blood vessels in the heart.
The study is not yet definitive, but it does suggest that
monogamy is better from your health than polygamy.
For the moment we do not
need to worry about the latter becoming common practice in America, but, who
knows?
Polygamy is clearly coming down the pike once the Supremes endorse gay marriage. Witness Alito's question as to why couldn't 2 males and two females marry if same-sex marriage is a fundamental right. As for your coronary stats, even if true, what a way to go.
ReplyDeletePolygamy is the next "just another lifestyle choice" option. And Scalia is no match, as he requires sentient beings to engage with, rather than cast-outs from the prequel to "Idiocracy."
ReplyDeleteThe upside is that LGBTQ's ascension to normalcy will give us another letter: it'll be LGBTQP, as Vanna turns the luminous letters, taunting us with what mysteries lie behind them...
Pat, I'd like to solve the puzzle, as I want to save my money and not buy a vowel. The solution is: "Fills daytime TV with beguiling people/topics"
[The winning music plays, and there is much rejoicing]
Men had better pay attention, because as a group they'll lose out on this "evolved lifestyle. in a big way. How do we know? Look at what happens at all these fundamentalist communes where the "reverends" get to have 100 wives. The boys get to look forward to a wonderful coming-of-age experience: getting kicked out.
Bruce Jenner is turning out to be a trendy conformist.
"A study into the health effects of polygamy has found men who had up to four wives were nearly five times more likely to suffer heart disease."
ReplyDeleteEither too much sex or too much eating from four wives cooking the meals.
At least they died happy.
I always figured polygamy had multiple wives in the same household. That would seem much more efficient.
ReplyDeleteSo if its stressful to have multiple houses, it seems like these men should "set down the law" and force all his wives to cooperate.
re: 'Men who practice polygamy have up to four concurrent wives who can reside in the same or different regions but do not normally reside in the same house.'
Or am I just imagining a harem?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harem
--------
Harem refers to the sphere of women in what is usually a polygynous household and their enclosed quarters which are forbidden to men. The term originated in the Near East. Harems are composed of wives and concubines. The South Asian equivalent, in those that practise purdah is known as zenana.
--------------
Some have suggested that it's from too many homes and too much work keeping them up.
ReplyDeleteI believe that Prof. Sherry Tukle predicts by 2050 we will want to marry our screen!
ReplyDeleteCan one imagine keeping the peace between four women? That alone would drive one to distraction.
ReplyDeleteThe odds of having four women that get along are not very high. Then deciding who does what and who is responsible for what could be a continuing problem.
Lord help you if getting really involved in sex that you mention the wrong name. Four periods with which to deal.
It has been my experience that women do not like other women in their kitchen. Note the use of the possessive.
