Remember when Kathy Griffin was widely excoriated and
shunned for portraying herself holding a severed head of President Donald
Trump. It was not funny. It was not a political statement. It was grotesque and
disrespectful.
Now, however, we discover that an artist names Kehinde Wiley,
chosen to paint a portrait of President Obama, has also painted pictures of
black women holding he severed heads of white women. Apparently, this signifies black power.
For your edification, here is the image of the Obama portrait, accompanied by the picture of Michelle Obama... painted by a different artist.
People have remarked that in his portrait Obama is presented
more as a thinker than as a leader. Not a bad idea. And it shows him surrounded
by vegetation and foliage… a leaves of grass look. As it happens, his chair
seems bizarrely drafted… thus giving the impression that he is about to fall
over it.
Wiley portrays the president as angry, which also makes sense as a
representation of Jeremiah Wright’s protégé. Thus, angry and weak, not a leader,
surrounded by Mother Nature… not a bad rendering. At the least, the portrait
resembles Obama.
It’s more than we can say about the portrait another artist
did of Michelle Obama… which does not resemble her at all. This means that, in
the hands of her chosen African-American portraitist, Michelle Obama has no
face… she is unrecognizable. Obviously, this is grossly insulting, even if it was not intended. It probably just meant that the artist did not know how to
draw a face.
And yet, when Barack Obama chose Wiley to paint his
portrait, he must have known that he was glorifying an artist who paints
ghoulish images of black women decapitating white women… a wish to return to
the time of the French Reign of Terror, perhaps.
It tells us that Obama was always and remains Jeremiah
Wright’s protégé. He could not miss the opportunity to use his presidential
portrait to display his contempt for America and his hatred of white people.
They just can't help themselves.
ReplyDeleteDespite its childish execution, Wiley has improved considerably since his sperm painting period...

He's asking $4k-6k for those babies. I call it the Progressive Master Bait series. Perfect for a Spirit Dinner. John Podesta, call your office.
Redacted, the swimming sperm painting has a nice sense of motion, although I'd pick a softer background, even black, since they're probably swimming in darkness.
ReplyDeleteThe beheading is surprising and clearly intentionally disturbing. Perhaps the 2016 election was fitting payback for a painting after the first African-American president, while Obama was replaced by a angry white male who wants to take back America of old.
Blacks and women in general have always known that they will be punished for showing anger or outrage unless there's a victim story that is obvious and accepted by all, while whites and men are generally accepted and presumed to be heroic in their passionate convictions, on the left or the right.

----
In 2012, Wiley who is known for painting men, exhibited work in Bejing including multiple paintings of women. New York Magazine described his variation of the painting of Judith Beheading Holofernes as standing out among the rest, describing the painting as depicting: “a tall, elegant black woman in a long blue dress. In one hand, she holds a knife. In the other, a cleanly severed brunette female head”. Describing the painting Wiley said: “It’s sort of a play on the ‘kill whitey’ thing”.

ReplyDeleteRepetitive motion. :-D
Not surprised you like it, though.

If ANY artist anywhere were to make a painting with a reversal of the racial roles involved in those paintings he'd be reviled from both the left and the right.
ReplyDeleteIt's disgusting and his comment on how "It's sort of a play on the 'kill whitey' thing" is horrifying and even more horrifying that nobody on the left is calling him out on it.
Can you imagine if the roles were reversed and Trump or any conservative, centrist or libertarian were to choose that artist to paint a publicly displayed painting?
Ares, Trump is not angry; he's happy, and enjoying life. This does result in angry Democrats, though. Bummer for them.

ReplyDeleteHa, that's an interesting thing to imagine, certainly he loves attention, although he talks with anger enough, maybe its just an act but I'd say he has some issues with negative emotions. I do see life is good when he can always go golfing and let other people do all the work.
But this is interesting, Trump's lawyer admitting paying Stormy Daniels $130,000 of his own money, which was to keep her quiet about a 2006 affair, during the the start of his third marriage. Trump might make it through 2020 as president, but will he still be married? Maybe Stormy is still interested? I wonder if Trump will invite the Clintons to his next wedding?
