Who's the Feckless Cunt Now?

In the past day and a half you have probably heard the word “cunt” more often than you heard it for the rest of your life. You know that decidedly unfunny comedienne Samantha Bee called Ivanka Trump a “feckless cunt.”

One is surprised that no one dared reply that, as the old schoolyard taunt says: it takes one to know one. It would have put an end to an absurd amount of moral posturing and virtue preening.

According to Bee, Ivanka Trump’s crime was… not to have taken control of her father’s immigration policy, something the Bee believed that Ivanka could do by being sufficiently alluring and by incestuously deploying her feminine mystique. What has feminism come to?

Given that these words fell in the midst of the major brouhaha over Roseanne Barr’s racist slur, one can only imagine that if we were still living in a serious country, we would first, not sprinkle our everyday conversation with vulgar epithets or barnyard obscenities, and second, not torture ourselves trying to find new ways to police speech.

It is not only that Bee’s mindlessly provocative slur ought rightly to be denounced. We feel obliged to point out that it was a prime instance of feminist misogyny. Do feminists really hate women that much? Do they believe that an attractive woman can get anything she wants from a man by slipping into a slinky frock, while other women, the true feminists need to work for it?

I leave it to your imagination.

Anyway, among the mass of commentaries on the topic—which mass I have certainly not read—one stands out. It’s by another feminist firebrand, by name of Erin Gloria Ryan. EGR is profoundly upset that the controversy has somehow slandered her favorite word, the word she throws into every conversation, roughly as some people put ketchup on everything they eat. What? You don’t know anyone who drowns all his food in ketchup? Consider yourself fortunate.

So, here is EGR—which, for those less literate, is short for: egregious—on her favorite word:

I love the word “cunt.” It’s so direct, sharp, and mean, with an acrid finish like a lick of whisky that leaves the roof of one’s mouth feeling disinfected and the eyes watering. In my mind, I use “cunt” on everything—men, women, pets, modes of transportation, inanimate objects. The other day I called the toilet paper holder in my bathroom a “stupid little cunt” for failing to hold up the toilet paper. I wish it were more socially acceptable to use it in more contexts. Everything can be a cunt if you truly believe in it.

At least, EGR has established, for all time, that the  “cunt” she uses on everything is not tasteless. Good to know that Samantha Bee was engaging in tasteful humor. Besides, as we all know only to well, and as the Latin has it: De gustibus non est disputandum. That is: there's no arguing with taste.

She's been drinking bad whisky, perhaps in great quantities and for far too long.

  2. Ed Driscoll at Instapundit raised another issue wrt Roseanne vs Bee. As far as anyone knows, Rosanne's tweet was a spur of the moment event, certainly not somthing discussed outside a fairly small circle of people if at all. When Bee dropped the C-note on Ivanka that was a scripted part of her show that had to have been reviewed by her producers, other writers, and TBS's standards and practices people. Even if it was unscripted, it still had to pass a post taping review before being accepted for broadcast without being cut.

And NONE of those people objected enough to get it axed.

  3. Yep, there's no arguing with taste, no matter how foul it may be.

  4. And if Ms. Bee had spoken so about the previous President's family?

  5. Can someone tell me how this country morphed into "Mean Girl Nation?" Everywhere one turns one sees "mean girls" trying to be the meanest dog on the block. Between SJWs, "pussy hat wears, terrible female comedians, "I am a nasty woman," et al it seems that women are trying to see who can be the most vile individuals.
And one wonders why some of us are beginning to question women in leadership, NY female Senator as an example, positions. Is this what is meant by dystopia?

  6. Anon...an early indicator was a 2010 book titled 'Nice girls don't get the corner office'

I haven't read the book and don't know what advice it contains, but the title by itself is destructive.

  7. Trump is drawing out the media... all of it. It’s like a parade of grotesque verbally-vomiting zombies.

Actually, it looks like Pickett’s Charge... just replace blind bravery with blind hysteria. After all, youd have to tear down the monuments to Picketts\’s Charge, while CNN gets a Pulitzer for “journalism.”

We’ll see how the public feels about all this in November. The unhinged, emotive groupthink is clearly confined to one end of the political spectrum. Where, oh where, is Antifa to protect us from fascism???

Pelosi’s response to today’s remarkably positive employment nembers focused on voters’ frustration with healthcare costs. Democrats own that!

    Get ready for a reckoning.

Samantha Bee’s show was not canceled. Enough said. That is all you need to know about “decency.”

  8. Also, consider the word c—-. I don’t see it used in any mixed conversation. It’s beyond the pale.

What on earth is going on?

I’m sure Ares Olympus will rationalize this all for us with “It depends...” rationalizations, accompanied soaring appeals to open-mindedness and hyperlinks to reference his point of view — all the while claiming to being open to all points of view.

Or he’ll say both sides do it, so as to effectively excuse it.

Or he'll say Bee went too far and rationalize that others on the Right have done similarly.

Or he'll Say Roseanne was worse.

Or he’ll not comment at all because he’s a coward in the face of the indefensible — which he’s been so many times before.

  9. Stuart: Bee believed that Ivanka could do by being sufficiently alluring and by incestuously deploying her feminine mystique.

Indeed, I think anyone would agree suggesting the deployment of incestuous impulses is a worse insult than mere vulgarity, if only Trump didn't actually confess thoughts about dating his daughter, still Ivanka doesn't deserve that.

Samantha Bee seemed to do well on the Daily Show, but I don't understand her current crude snarky slams. It's like pretend advocacy while speaking in a way that is just hateful and best ignored. And even her apology sounds devoid of humanity:
"I would like to sincerely apologize to Ivanka Trump and to my viewers for using an expletive on my show to describe her last night. It was inappropriate and inexcusable. I crossed a line, and I deeply regret it."

  10. I hear the C-word now and then, but "feckless"? Judging by its rarity, "feckless" must be a hell of a crude insult, whatever it means.
