The Deep State's Revenge

I can’t say it any better than Mark Penn did, so I won’t try. Penn, you know, once worked for the Clintons. Today he counts among those honorable Democrats who are willing to defy the party line in favor of dispassionate objective analysis of our current political circus. In that he joins liberals like Alan Dershowitz and Steven Cohen.

Yesterday, Penn explained how the FBI and the Justice Department were undermining the Trump administration and, by the by, to overturn the result of a fair election… in the name of democracy.

Penn offers a concise summary:

The most egregious anti-democratic actions ever taken by the what can now fairly be called the Deep State are confirmed with the publication of fired FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe’s new book detailing how the FBI and Justice Department plotted to remove President Trump from office for firing FBI Director James Comey.

Justice Department and FBI officials spied on U.S. citizens with false warrants, gave a pass to one presidential campaign with a predetermined investigation, investigated another political campaign on the basis of no verified evidence, and illegally leaked information on investigations. They discussed wiretapping and using the 25th Amendment to the Constitution to remove President Trump, and appointed a special counsel as a retaliatory move for Comey’s firing.

It is now crystal clear that the highest echelons of the Justice Department and FBI had morphed from the world’s most professional law enforcement organization into a Third World rump group. They had the hubris to believe that they – not the American people or their duly elected representatives – should decide who governs and how.

They upended our election process, fanned partisan political flames, distorted our foreign policy by isolating us from Russia, and abused the powers of their office.

And now McCabe and Comey become media heroes, for leading the charge against democracy.

Penn concludes:

McCabe and Comey appear on TV, write books, and have become nakedly partisan, revealing political attitudes no different from Strzok and Page. They readily believed unsubstantiated information and then took power into their own hands.

Every Democrat, Republican and independent should stop angling for partisan advantage and agree, regardless of who is helped or hurt, that these officials acted without proper authority and are responsible for unprecedented damage to our democracy and our political system.

  1. TRUST

What these people, and a significant number of Democrats, have done is to destroy the trust of the American citizen in its government. They have created doubt in our Representative Constitutional government. A "Deep State" cabal has tried to overthrow what the Founders created.
These people deserve to be tried before a court of law for the most heinous crime perpetrated against all of us including those who have taken the oath to "support and defend the Constitution."
Sedition may not be good enough for these people to understand the damage they have done to us. The sad part here is that they did not do this in a vacuum. They had willing partners in "Deep State" and a party, Democrats, who would do anything for power.
Can any of us ever trust that our government is working on our behalf???

  2. The government shouldn't be working on our behalf. Everything one needs to know about what happens when the government works on your behalf can be answered by visiting a tribal reservation, welfare office, or the waiting room of a VA hospital. The government should be defending the borders and the Constitution, enforcing and adjudicating laws passed by representative assemblies, and otherwise staying out of citizens' business. The constant refrain of would-be tyrants from Clinton to Ocasio-Cortez is a craving, a ravening hunger, to work on your behalf.

  3. TW,
I would state that "The government should be defending the borders and the Constitution, enforcing and adjudicating laws passed by representative assemblies." is working on our behalf. Otherwise, I would agree, but that is not what I meant which should have been apparent by my emphasis on Representative Constitutional government. Maybe I should have been more specific. Always enjoy your comments.

  5. A full-on coup right in front of our eyes, fully documented, all the evidence in plain sight, with people giving interviews about it on 60 minutes, and not much of anything is going to be done to counter it. Worse, the tip of the spear, the Mueller investigation, initiated and orchestrated by the primary coup plotter, Rod Rosenstein, is still chugging along with no oversight, time limit, or clear directive except to nail the democratically elected President of the United States. I'm going to get drunk tonight.

  6. 'Twould seem to me that this book is evidence FOR prosecution of these sleazeballs. So would copies of the interviews of these sleazeballs. When will Trump do so...and let them twist slowly, slowly in the wind before doing so.
