It’s time to pardon Gen. Michael Flynn. It largely surpasses outrage to see that the Obama FBI and Justice Department tried to destroy Flynn’s life and career for partisan political reasons. After all, he did not support the calamitous Iran nuclear deal and therefore had to be punished.
The judicial process has dragged on unconscionably, and ought to be stopped… by the president. The Wall Street Journal editorializes:
The prosecution of former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn has already exposed the bad faith of the FBI and Justice Department in pursuing him even when they knew there was no basis for an investigation. Now federal Judge Emmet Sullivan is continuing the legal torture by appealing an order from a panel of the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals to drop the charges. President Trump should step in now and end this farce by pardoning Mr. Flynn.
Of course, the flagrant dishonesty and political bias of Judge Sullivan ought to get him impeached. It will not, but it should:
In an honest process, Judge Sullivan would have signed off on dropping charges once prosecutors and the defense agreed there is no case to adjudicate. He refused. Mr. Flynn then sought a writ of mandamus from the D.C. Circuit, and he prevailed in a 2-1 opinion that ordered Judge Sullivan to dismiss the case.
Judge Sullivan is now refusing again by requesting this week an en banc review of the writ by the full D.C. Circuit. Though we don’t know whether the full court will take the appeal, remember that Senate Democrats and Barack Obama packed the D.C. Circuit with liberal judges after ending the judicial filibuster on a partisan Senate vote in 2013.
Judge Sullivan knows that once the court takes the case en banc, the panel opinion is immediately vacated under D.C. Circuit rules. That means the writ ordering him to dismiss vanishes, and the eventual en banc ruling would control. Mr. Flynn’s legal agony would continue for months and perhaps until a Biden Administration takes office.
Obviously, this is an abuse of judicial power. It is a nightmare for Gen. Flynn, but it is a flagrant violation of the spirit of the American constitution. In today’s America there are two sets of rules, for the left and the right. Left-leaning politicians, left-leaning media, left-leaning academics … can do what they please, can say what they want… with impunity.
Those who lean more to the right are subjected to canceling and to prosecution. They are never given the least break, as corrupt incompetent judges pursue a political agenda, regardless of who they destroy in the process.
One notes, with chagrin, that a distinguished career in the military has not earned Michael Flynn the least consideration. It has not earned him the least gesture of respect. Effectively, it has only garnered him the contempt of the American left. Please do not tell me that these people are patriots.
The President should pardon General Flynn today. He also should find someone who will quietly suggest to Judge Sullivan that he can avoid all manner of illegal act questions and tax violation questions by resigning immediately.
ReplyDeleteOnce again we find, as if we didn't already know, that anyone who claims to have any moral sense and is a leftist, progressive, or whatever socialist identity they claim, is a liar.
I repeatedly remind friends:
Rule #1. If it wasn't for double standards, the left would have no standards.
I'm of two minds.
ReplyDeleteWith respect to justice, Flynn should be pardoned. As Mma Precious Ramotswe would say, "This is well-known." End it now.
Nevertheless, the continuing torture of Gen Flynn has leveraged ongoing and evermore damning exposure of the Proglodyte hyenas slavering and snarling around his campfire. There's value in that.
Indeed, they are not patriots. They are running-dog Democrats.
ReplyDeleteI will never again entertain the idea that we are a nation of laws. We are a nation of power, and the laws are arbitrarily applied to the side that does not have power. We are run by the media, the legal apparatus, and our federal intelligence services, not by democratically elected officials. Let the people who cannot accept it go on about laws and courts and justice. It’s all rigged, and the choices are hand picked in advance. It’s over.
ReplyDeleteAnd the gun sales roll on...
