It gets curiouser and curiouser. Woke American are hell bent on dumbing down academic subjects, in order to dumb down minority students and deprive them of a chance to excel in the real world.
Now, the social justice warriors have taken our after mathematics. The kind that teaches you how to count and to calculate. You see, right answers are racist. Therefore, there must be no more right answers.
Now, when America builds more bridges and tunnels, they will not use mathematics, but will use ethno-mathematics, the better to ensure that minorities not feel bad. But, what happens when the bridges fall and the tunnels collapse? What happens when the buildings are poorly constructed and the banks calculate your savings account interest on the basis of ethnomathematics.
The notion is too stupid to consider, except perhaps in Oregon.
The Oregon Department of Education (ODE) recently encouraged teachers to register for training that encourages “ethnomathematics” and argues, among other things, that White supremacy manifests itself in the focus on finding the right answer.
An ODE newsletter sent last week advertises a Feb. 21 “Pathway to Math Equity Micro-Course,” which is designed for middle school teachers to make use of a toolkit for “dismantling racism in mathematics.”
How can mathematics possibly be racist?
Part of the toolkit includes a list of ways “white supremacy culture” allegedly “infiltrates math classrooms.” Those include “the focus is on getting the ‘right’ answer,” students being “required to ‘show their work,'” and other alleged manifestations.
No more right answers. That will do it. That will rid our nation of racism.
As John Hinderaker notes on the Powerline blog, (via Maggie's Farm) if you had set out to destroy the minds of black children, you could not do very much better than the Oregon program:
I suppose it would be possible to come up with a better plan to destroy black academic performance than by telling black students not to worry about getting the right answer to a math problem, but I can’t think what it would be.
Ethnic math?
ReplyDeleteI be + I be = To Be
Not raaaaaacist, just difficult. Ya gotta STUDY, 'cause it's harrrrrrrrrd.
ReplyDeleteAnon, I LIKE your last line!
Having studied mathematics (up to functional analysis) I would put forward that calculus is fundamentally and assault on humanity. The method of calculus is to slice and dice the world into tiny slivers and then add up those shreds into a different format to get the answer that some white male wants to see. This is racism, antifeminism and climate denial.
ReplyDeleteIf we only could hasten the time when gender studies professors and radical black sociology professors could assume taking over the levers of power and influence the world would be vastly more happy and productive. 1 + 1 = love and a brave new world !
Anon, I went to a differenet college. I LIKED calculus (the MATH, not the kind my dentist takes off my teeth). Bummmmmmmmer for you.
ReplyDeleteYes. Reality is racist, sexist, and homophobic.
ReplyDeleteErdos, the mathematician, called God ‘the Supreme fascist’ because of the strict discipline of math.
