Miscellany

Heather Mac Donald has a new book out, entitled, When Race Trumps Merit. I have not read it, but I am happy to recommend it. Mac Donald’s is one of the most sane voices in the current debate about diversity and merit.

For your edification, Ann Coulter summarizes the central point:

It seems that in the hysteria that followed George Floyd’s death in 2020, we agreed to destroy all of Western civilization — law, music, art, education, policing, science and medicine — to make up for black people not doing well on standardized tests.

Mac Donald cites not hundreds but thousands of institutions that have flung aside standards in order to more fully dedicate themselves to the sole, driving purpose of our nation: boosting black people’s self-esteem.

Second, from the annals of divorce.

Christine Baumgartner is divorcing her husband, Kevin Costner. We do not know what was going on between the two, engaged in a nineteen year marriage. We know that they have three children together.

As for the reason for the divorce, apparently Baumgartner got torqued over the fact that Costner was not home enough. Naturally, being a seriously intelligent feminist, she decided that the best solution to not having your man home enough was not to have him home at all.

Of course, Costner was not out and about trying to seduce nubile young things. He was working, at a job, and making a living, to support his family. One suspects that Baumgartner, a former model and handbag designer, does not support herself or her family.

Nevertheless, while Costner was away on location, his wife decided to take it personally, and therefore to feel that he was working on Yellowstone because he was rejecting her.

Where does anyone get such a stupid idea? One suspects, without knowing any better, that she heard it from a licensed, credentialed mental health professional. What else are therapists good for?

Third, as you know, social influencer Dylan Mulvaney has been having trouble sleeping. The great minds of Budweiser have been agonizing over how to restore sales of their beer, Bud Light. One understands that the collapse in sales of Bud Light represents the American people voting on transgender issues.

Now, having tried everything else, the company CEO, one Michel Doukeris has discovered the culprit-- disinformation.

So, as sales of Bud Light continue to tank, we discover that it could not have happened to a more incompetent bunch of executives.

Fourth, from the satirical site, the Babylon Bee

Reports have it that President Biden will not be participating in any presidential debates as long as Hollywood writers remain on strike. Biden’s handlers have declared that he cannot go on without a script.

  1. All famous men are out and about trying to seduce nubile young things.

  2. I do sympathize with the loneliness felt by spouses of absent husbands who are engaged in work. For much of my marriage, my husband has worked long hours at his job. When outer ccphildren were young, this was quite difficult for us.
There is a trade-off when retirement age is reached. The spouse who formerly worked long hours finds that his (usually the man in the marriage) purpose in life is missing, and often falls into depression for a time.
