Health Care Realities

The great national health care debate is not, strictly speaking, within the purview of this blog. I am far from knowledgeable enough to offer information that may serve to define or to clarify the issues.

I would not say the same about columnist Robert Samuelson. Considering the amount of misinformation that is being peddled by the president, it is worth everyone's while to examine some of the facts, via Samuelson. Link here.

Just today, Obama was speaking in Ohio on the last leg of his health care tour. He declared that reducing Medicare by $500 billion was going to save the program and make it stronger. It takes a special kind of chutzpah to assert such a bald faced lie with a straight face. And it did not take very long for the Congressional Budget Office to issue a statement, to the effect that transferring $500 billion from Medicare to the uninsured will not save Medicare or make it stronger.

When it comes to lies and distortions, that was just the tip of the iceberg. For some of the other pieces of misinformation, I recommend the Samuelson article.
