The War on Egyptian Women

As expected, women are now being routinely sexually harassed in the new democratic Egypt. You might have thought that Egypt’s new Islamist rulers favored respecting women.

You would have been wrong.

Apparently, the new cultural climate has made it open season on women. In today's Islamist Egypt women no longer feel free to come and go as they wish. They are certainly not free to dress as they wish.

The "religion of peace" is systematically terrorizing Egyptian women.

The BBC reports:

Campaigners in Egypt say the problem of sexual harassment is reaching epidemic proportions, with a rise in such incidents over the past three months. For many Egyptian women, sexual harassment - which sometimes turns into violent mob-style attacks - is a daily fact of life….

How is the Obama administration reacting to something that really deserves to be called a war on women?

It is funneling money to Egypt’s Islamist government, in the name of “democracy.”

The New York Times reported this morning:

Nearly 16 months after first pledging to help Egypt’s failing economy, the Obama administration is nearing an agreement with the country’s new government to relieve $1 billion of its debt as part of an American and international assistance package intended to bolster its transition to democracy, administration officials said.

You won’t hear a word of this from the Democratic National Convention. You won’t hear a word of this from Sandra Fluke and other feminist activists.

After all, how can Barack Obama’s Democratic party denounce a war on women that it is helping to fund.

  1. One day many feminists will rue the day they made a deal with the government for free stuff. They haven't figured out that the more free stuff the less freedom. A woman can always divorce a man, but it cannot divorce a government that now has the ultimate control over their bodes, life, career and survival.
As one great American once said, "What the government gives it can take away." The sad part is that one can see them making the voyage into bondage as they seek a larger commitment by those who would enslave them. Feminists deserve it, but my daughters and granddaughters do NOT.
Pay very close attention to the women of Egypt because they are dealing with what your future will be and women in this country ignore it at their own peril.

  2. Fanatics. As are the women (and men) in Western nations who are extremists at the other end. They are rebels with a cause and without a clue.

This reminds me of the SlutWalk movement, which has made an effort to conflate cultural standards for dress with rape and discrimination; or the women dressed to resemble the external features of the female reproductive system, purportedly in an effort to preserve women's dignity; or the women who protested American cultural norms by walking topless through the streets (at least until the less aesthetically pleasing women were upstaged by their healthier and fortuitous counterparts and made to feel self-conscious). They are all fanatics at different ends of the scale.

  3. I would not have thought the Muslim Brotherhood guys would treat women kindly. I've read enough (didn't take much) to know better.
