Yesterday, an incompetent government employee in true blue Hawaii
set off a panic by falsely announcing that a nuclear missile was headed their
way. Naturally, the celebrity illiterati are out in force blaming it all on
President Trump. Not for nothing are celebrities part of the illiterati.
In the meantime, diplomacy is happening around the world.
Among the more interesting events was India’s greeting for Israeli Prime
Minister Netanyahu. The Prime Minister himself met Netanyahu at the New Delhi
Airport… even though India voted against Israel
in the United Nations on the matter of the American recognition of Jerusalem as
Israel’s capital. From the AP, via the San Francisco Chronicle.
Everyone is puzzling over this seeming contradiction. They
would do better to understand the difference between casting meaningless votes in the United
Nations and doing billions of dollars in business. They would also do well to
understand the importance of ceremony—in according the honor of a grand
reception to a foreign leader a nation is honoring the nation itself.
Anyway, here’s the news, from Debkafile:
Prime
Minister Binyamin Netanyahu was warmly greeted on his arrival at New Delhi
airport Sunday by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who welcomed him as “my friend who
has come for a historic and important visit to India.” During Netanyahu’s six
day visit to India, the two leaders are to hold talks on strategic relations,
defense and expanded trade. He will also meet president Ram Nath Kovind and
visit Ahmedabad, Mumbai and Agra. On Monday, he will meet with the Indo-Israeli
CEO forum in New Delhi and address a separate business event. PM Modi was the
first Indian prime minister to visit Israel last July.
PM Modi
and Benjamin Netanyahu went straight to the Teen Murti Chow to attend a
ceremony for formally renaming the monument as Teen Murti Haifa Chowk in honor
of the Israeli port town. This monument commemorates the Hyderabad, Jodhpur and
Mysore Lancers who were part of the 15 Imperial Service Cavalry Brigade which liberated
Haifa on Sept. 23, 1918.
Netanyahu's visit to Agra should be interesting, if only because he will almost surely visit the world's most beautiful Islamic mausoleum: the Taj. Will a Zionist foot step inside this treasure in white marble, encrusted with countless semiprecious stones?
ReplyDeleteRage Boy, are you watching? Curtain call!
I bet the Chinese are not happy at all about this visit.
ReplyDeleteIf the Chinese are not happy, we should all be very, very afraid.
ReplyDeleteWhy, exactly, should we be afraid, IAC?
ReplyDeleteI doubt that the Chinese really care... after all, they are happy to do business with Israel...
ReplyDelete"I doubt that the Chinese really care... after all, they are happy to do business with Israel"
ReplyDeleteI think they do. Yes, they'll do business with anyone. Right now Xi and his group have a very distinct foreign policy goal as articulated by the "New Silk Road". It is two parts land and maritime. Both of these have India as a major problem with Australia a major problem for the maritime. The strengthening military links between India and Israel do worry China.
IAC,
ReplyDeleteThe time to be just worried about China has long past. As they have shown in the South China Sea they are implementing a policy of let's call it "being there". They create and militarily occupy areas that are gray in International understanding then dare anyone to unseat them. In essence they are surrounding India by land and sea and probably feel they can bring sufficient pressure to bear once that's established.
I was being silly. We just left the Obama Administration, a group of wannabe communists/kleptocrats/totalitarians who I’m confident admire the Chinese model, if for no other reason than Tom Friedman does. After all, Friedman is smarter than all of us (just ask him).
ReplyDeleteChina has control over us because we allowed them (to buy trillions in T-bills). They will soon become the largest economy in the world because we allowed them (for a whole host of reasons).
There are many who believe this is an inevitable thing — or at least cleverly claim it is —because they are so smart. Yeah, smart enough to not understand something Trump does: leverage. I believe our present predicament is a disaster, bfor a host of reasons that will break the character limit for commentary here.
The Chi-Coms are willing to do business with anyone.
As always, I say “Keep your eyes on Iran.”
I wouldn't worry about China. The Israeli-Indian alliance has everything to do with a common Islamic threat, and China will soon join the alliance as well as radical Islam turns it attention east once it finishes up conquering and destroying Europe and the rest of the West.
