Meanwhie, in Gaza

Meanwhile, in Gaza, the war continues. Stephen Green defends the Israeli action in these words:

It's official: Israel's expanded military operations in the Gaza Strip won't be complete until Israeli Defense Forces "take over all the areas of the Strip," according to a statement Monday on social media by Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu.

Calling Israel's military actions following the Oct. 7 terror invasion a "war of civilization over barbarism," Netanyahu reminded Hamas (and the world) that "The war can end tomorrow if the remaining hostages are released, Hamas lays down its arms, its murderous leaders are exiled and Gaza is demilitarized."

Surely, it is good to have a notion of what it will take for the war to end. And yet, Hamas fights on, and the people of Gaza seem largely to be supportive of the terrorists.

Now, as it happens, the Gazans fight on because they are attracting support from around the world. Most recently, England, France and Canada have denounced Israel for hurting the poor, innocent Palestinian people.

Green explains:

A joint statement Monday by Britain, Canada, and France warned, "If Israel does not cease the renewed military offensive and lift its restrictions on humanitarian aid, we will take further concrete actions in response." Jerusalem said on Sunday that Israel would allow "a basic quantity of food to be brought in" to Gaza but otherwise rebuffed those demands.

Of course, it is all in the name of humanity. It shows no willingness to denounce the Hamas leaders for confiscating foodstuffs and refusing to distribute them to the population.

Consider this. England and France have large Muslim populations. And the Muslims in their midst-- beyond the fact that they have brought lawlessness and criminality to those countries-- also vote. One suspects that these weak-kneed leftist leaders are responding to electoral politics. They do not want to lose the Muslim vote.

Surely, the fight in Gaza is civilizational. The Palestinian serial failures are embarrassing when placed next to the great success of Israel. And this makes Muslims feel bad. We can’t have that.

And also, some Americans have expressed horror over the images of suffering Palestinian terrorists. Green explains:

Any food going into Gaza is commandeered by Hamas for either its own use or to be sold to Gazans at obscene prices, as we've seen time and again.

The history of Gaza since Israel withdrew is Hamas thugs stealing Western aid for their personal enrichment. You didn't think Sinwar got to be worth $3 billion selling olive oil and prayer rugs, did you?

Do our European allies know about such things? Do they care? Or are they simply useful dupes in the Hamas war against Israel.

In the meantime not everyone has joined the anti-Semitic brigade. Just yesterday the new leader of Syria-- a man with a highly sketchy past-- has suggested that he is willing to enter negotiations about joining the Abraham Accords.

The New York Post has the story:

Syrian leader Ahmed al-Sharaa has privately expressed openness to joining the Abraham Accords and normalizing relations with Israel in a move that would dramatically shake up the Middle East, according to two congressmen who met with him last month.

We recall that when the Syrian leader met with President Trump in Riyadh in the presence of the Saudi Crown Prince, Trump encouraged him to join the Abraham Accords.

We also know that when Ahmed al-Sharaa took over Syria that country was suffering an extreme level of debt, left over from the Assad regime. As it happened, the Saudis stepped in to pay off the debt. From which we may conclude that the Syrian gesture to join the Abraham Accords was approved by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

It is worth emphasizing that the Israeli war against Hamas has not caused any of the countries in the Abraham Accords to withdraw from that agreement.

So, the weak-kneed Euro-leftists, accompanied by Canada, have taken a stand against Israel. The countries of the Middle East, not so much.
