The Plight of Women in Egypt

Yesterday I wrote a post about the prevalence of female genital mutilation in Egypt. (Scroll down to read it.) In my post I asked why Western women, especially feminists, had not denounced this barbaric practice.

Therefore, it is only right and proper that I link to Jessica Olien's article on the DoubleX blog about women's lives in Egypt, and about their fears that things might very well become much worse. Link here.  I will also mention that Olien is one of the few journalists who have mentioned the prevalence of female genital mutilation in Egypt and the effort of Suzanne Mubarak to stop it.
