Are "We" Pregnant?

I trust that I am not alone in finding it peculiar when a man announces: “We are pregnant.”

In my own case my disquiet derives from my unwavering respect for correct linguistic usage. Others may have different feelings for different.

One understands that it is the feministically correct expression, one that sees men and women as utterly and totally equal. Apparently, it's sexist to believe that only women get pregnant.

Yesterday, a pregnant actress named Mila Kunis took out after talk show host Jimmy Kimmel when he dared express the notion that both he and his wife were pregnant.

Here is E’s report of Kunis’s epic rant:

Pregnant actress Mila Kunis, 36, who is engaged to Ashton Kutcher, opened up about how she is sick of men saying “we” to describe a couple’s pregnancy. “Stop saying, ‘We’re pregnant.’ You’re not pregnant! Do you have to squeeze a watermelon-sized person out of your lady-hole? No. Are you crying alone in your car listening to a stupid Bette Midler song? No. When you wake up and throw up, is it because you’re nurturing a human life? No,” she declared. Kunis went on the amazing tirade after host Jimmy Kimmel started a sentence, “My wife and I are pregnant.” Kunis also spoke about her lack of ability to drink, declaring that if men do throw up, “It’s because you had too many shots of tequila. Do you know how many shots of tequila we had? None. Because we can’t have shots of tequila. We can’t have anything because we’ve got your little love goblin growing inside of us. All you did was roll over and fall asleep.”

The next time you hear a man say that “we” are pregnant, replay in your mind what Mila Kunis said.

Mila has it right. It's HER pregnancy. I do wonder about marrying Ashton, but I know little about him other than that he is very good at playing a dumb guy. Mila worked with him a number of years, so she should have known what she was getting into.

I always preferred to say, "Please don't be alarmed if you soon happen to notice some swelling in my wife's abdominal area. It's perfectly normal given her condition."

SHE is pregnant. WE are expecting.

Wow. What an amazing realization: women are special. Unique, even. Givers of life. Powerfully, instinctually amazing. Truly. This is news to feminists -- who deny it -- and to the go-get-'em media types who can't seem find a pause to consider such amazing things. After all, it's not new.

"We" further denigrates woman's incredible role in... well, everything that matters. A further asexualization of a very sexual fact.

I have to admit that I am so tired of this desire to be offended that I give little of it credibility. I will NOT allow others to control how I speak or think!
Normal people understand what you mean even if in artfully stated. To make a big deal out of everyday intercourse between individuals is to want to be the center of attention because one is insecure in one's own person.
Go be offended on your own time.

Maybe it's "womb-envy" on the part of the husband/partner? Could it be that Freud got it backwards w/his "penis-envy"...?

Freud definitely got it backwards! But "we are pregnant" just means that the couple is going to have a baby. Also, those who live in intimate contact with one another become one physiologically (scientific studies show). Thus the husbands hormones, body chemistry changes in response to his wife's during this time.
