Trump Assassination Fiction

Speaking of toxic cultural environments, the New York Times, fresh from denouncing President Trump for fanning the flames of violence, publishes a story about the assassination of Donald Trump.

Written by Zoe Sharp, the story appeared in the midst of a series of novelistic takes on what it calls the Trump administration's next chapter.

Here is the scene, via Pirate’s Cove and Maggie’s Farm:

The president didn’t seem to notice. He waved, in his desultory fashion. The Secret Service agents clustered around him, ushered him toward the armored limo idling outside at the curb.

The Russian waited until they were a few steps past before he drew the gun. He sighted on the center of the president’s back, and squeezed the trigger.

The Makarov misfired.

The Secret Service agent at the president’s shoulder heard the click, spun into a crouch. He registered the scene instantly, drawing his own weapon with razor-edge reflexes.

The Russian tasted failure. He closed his eyes and waited to pay the cost.

It did not come.

He opened his eyes. The Secret Service agent stood before him, presenting his Glock, butt first.

"Here," the agent said politely. "Use mine. …"

Is it wish fulfillment? Is it an expression of an unremitting will to destroy Donald Trump and his presidency? Is it the Times’ way of proving that it cannot treat Trump fairly and objectively?

One thing is certain: it is not journalism.

"Journalism" has never been what it claims to be, from the hagiographic accounts about vicious frontier gunmen, to yellow journalism, to the Duranty fabulism, to the Tet offensive, to the "fake but accurate" era, to the Slumber of Recovery bootlicking during the Lightworker Administration, to the Carbon Footprint hyperventilation apocalyptics, right up to today.

I think the Times gave up on that fantasy a long time ago. They are howling Leftist activists, worshipping the First Amendment through mantra only, using its mystical shroud to disguise their malevolence.

Just one more reason for me to despise, detest, and distrust the NYT. Not that I needed one.

IAC, it's not that they can't be fair and objective, it's that they WON'T. They're minions of the Dems.

Perhaps it can be called "dog whistle journalism".

Anon, the NYT knows its dogs.

Assassination is a serious subject, something we've managed to avoid for 50 years, and I've actually wondered how it is even possible to protect a single individual leading the only remaining global superpower.

If I were to write a "Trump’s Next Chapter" fantasy fiction, probably the story would focus on political violence and threat of violence all over the place. It would lead the reader into premonitions of assassination, and Trump would become obsessed by the thought of a violent death. We'll find his only comfort is is nightly McDonald's happy meal, safe food from poisoning since food preparers wouldn't know he was coming. And then it ends quickly with Trump falling on the floor with a heart attack, only Mike Pence in the room, he waits a little too long before calling for help.
