Just when you think that it can’t get any worse, the American Medical Association, a pillar of our medical establishment, has decided to go all-in for critical race theory.
One likes to imagine, because one is of a positive mindset, that science and technology would be immune from the CRT madness. But no, the disease has now become policy for the AMA.
The Epoch Times reports the story, largely ignored elsewhere:
The American Medical Association (AMA), the largest national organization representing physicians and medical students in the United States, says it will set aside its long-held concept of meritocracy in favor of “racial justice” and “health equity.”
In an 86-page strategic plan released May 11, the AMA set out a three-year road map detailing how the advocacy group will use its influence to dismantle “structural and institutional racism” and advance “social and racial justice” in America’s health care system.
According to its plan, the AMA will be following a host of strategies, including implementing “racial and social justice” throughout the AMA enterprise culture, systems, policies, and practices; expanding medical education to include critical race theory; and pushing toward “racial healing, reconciliation, and transformation” regarding the organization’s own “racially discriminatory” past.
Does this sound like medical science to you? Does this give you more or less confidence in your physicians? Worse yet, does this make you more or less likely to choose a physician who has profited from these new policies?
“Equality as a process means providing the same amounts and types of resources across populations,” the association said. “Seeking to treat everyone the ‘same,’ ignores the historical legacy of disinvestment and deprivation through historical policy and practice of marginalizing and minoritizing communities.”
Down with merit. By extension, down with science. Certain groups are now being granted special privileges because of their status as victims of white racism. People are no longer judged by their abilities, but by their presumed suffering. The issue of earning one's way has been tossed in the dumpster.
As the story explains, the AMA is not in charge of health care in this country, but it wields great influence on medical education:
While the AMA doesn’t run America’s health care system, it holds tremendous influence over medical schools and teaching hospitals that train physicians and other health professionals. Those institutes, the AMA says, must reject meritocracy, which it describes as a harmful narrative that “ignores the inequitably distributed social, structural and political resources.”
“The commonly held narrative of meritocracy is the idea that people are successful purely because of their individual effort,” it states. “Medical education has largely been based on such flawed meritocratic ideals, and it will take intentional focus and effort to recognize, review and revise this deeply flawed interpretation.”
Instead, the AMA suggests, medical schools should incorporate into their programs critical race theory, an offshoot of Marxism that views society through the lens of a power struggle between the race of oppressors and that of the oppressed. As a result, according to the theory, all long-established institutions of Western society are considered to be tools of racial oppression.
So, we are now going to dumb down the medical profession. We are going to exclude well-qualified candidates from medical training so we can grant special consideration to less-qualified candidates. Isn’t this what we have been doing in university admissions for decades now? Haven’t we learned that these policies victimize everyone, both their beneficiaries and those who suffer discrimination because of race.
Now, the greatest medical system on the planet is going to be systematically undermined because a band of maniacs have decided that they could not have failed in America. They believe that America must have failed them.
Now, a bunch of brain dead white liberals feel compelled to signal their virtue by filling medical schools with less capable candidates and by wasting everyone’s time with indoctrination sessions in leftist ideology.
Somewhere Chairman Mao is smiling.

I'm struggling to come up with a more effective way of discouraging, over the longer term, people from trusting black medics.
There's already medical tourism to India and other places, for reasons of cost...now there will also be medical tourism for reasons of quality.
Doctors will start behaving like real estate agents, placing their picture on advertisements and flyers, so that everyone can see their race.
To many of us who practice medicine, the AMA is an embarrassment. While they claim to represent medicine, there are very many physicians who are either non political or will actively disagree with the AMA liberal agenda.
We've already dumbed down medicine in many ways. This will be just one more step on a long path.

This controversy was settled min the ‘60s with the debate for affirmative action hiring; hiring by race, admission to university by race, grading by race is more important than excellence, merit, achievement, etc. Too late to debate now.
I'm glad my doc is an South Korean ex-fighter pilot and worked with NASA.
