She Didn't Give Two Rats' Asses for the Police

Thousands of New York City police officers have tested positive for coronavirus. Dozens have died. Beyond the horrific human cost, criminals now have far less to fear from policing.

Who, pray tell, bears responsibility for this calamity. Hint: it's not Donald Trump. It turns out that the responsible party is New York Health Commissioner Dr. Oxiris Barbot. You see, when Chief Terence Monahan called Barbot in mid March to ask for more face masks for police officers, this is what she said:

I don’t give two rats’ asses about your cops.

Monahan had asked for 500,000 masks. Barbot offered up 50,000.

That the de Blasio administration hates the police is not news. That this story took two months to be exposed is still a mystery.

Now, we hear calls for Barbot to be fired:

Presidents of the other major police unions, the Detectives’ Endowment Association and the Police Benevolent Association, also slammed Barbot and called for her to be canned.

“A so-called city leader, Dr. Barbot showed her true colors as a cop-hater,” said Detectives’ Endowment Association President Paul DiGiacomo.

“Five brave NYPD Detectives died as the DEA searched for protective equipment to purchase for our members while we waited for the city to distribute masks.”

Patrick Lynch, president of the Police Benevolent Association, called Barbot’s comments “despicable and unforgivable.”

“Dr. Barbot should be forced to look in the eye of every police family who lost a hero to this virus. Look them in the eye and tell them they aren’t worth a rat’s ass,” Lynch fumed.

Of course, Barbot has  Puerto Rican background. Thus, she is presumably a person of color. What are the odds that Comrade Bill will fire her or that she will resign?

I have no idea why the NYPD continue in their supine position with this Bolshevik mayor. I guess it all comes down to a pension. This would be a good time to stage a mass protest.

Masks were hard to get because we were told by all our scientific authorities that masks were not effective against viruses all through January and February. Mid March they reversed course. By that time they were gone.

I have a nice stockpile of N95 masks (and respirators) I bought in January when it was not clear how lethal this pox was. Seems a good time to sell. Or maybe I’ll hang onto them when the real thing comes around.

Show of hands, please, those of you surprised by this. ( no hands ) Yes, that's what I thought.

How many NYC officials have a security detail? Are these security people police officers? If so, the police unions should stage a surprise strike. Let's see what de Blasio and Barbot say about the value of the police when no one shows up to protect their worthless as . . . jobs.
