Anti-Semitism Comes to UCLA

It ignores the anti-Semitism of Louis Farrakhan and Jeremiah Wright, but the American left is oh-so-quick to blame the Pittsburgh synagogue massacre on Donald Trump. Since the shooter hated Trump for siding with Jews, the natural conclusion would be that Trump incited the attack.

Of course, with the support of the American left the Farrakhan and Wright contingent has worked long and hard to make anti-Semitism respectable again. Leading the charge is an organization called the Students for Justice in Palestine, an anti-Semitic outfit that infests far too many American campuses. And that is respected by professors and students alike. Now, the group is holding a national conference at UCLA. While the university does not want to be associated with the organization, it is still hosting the event.

Need I add that if an orthodox Jew like Ben Shapiro were speaking, it would shut it all down in the interest of public safety.

The Algemeiner has the story (via Maggie’s Farm). It explains what the SJP stands for:

For example, SJP believes Zionism “can be destroyed,” and supports that objective. Suggesting that the national movement of the Jewish people, which holds that Jews have the right to self-determination in their homeland — Israel — should be destroyed is a call for mass murder, like the Klan’s desire to do away with the Jews. Similarly, SJP’s call for Palestinian refugees to return to “their homes” is a euphemism for the destruction of Israel.

Overt anti-Semitism. The American left shrugs its collective shoulders:

On November 2, for example, the SJP Facebook page had a graphic regarding who controls the press. A dozen media outlets were listed — along with the names, photos, and titles of Jews who work at them. Next to each picture was a Jewish star. One year ago, the founder of SJP, UC Berkeley lecturer Hatem Bazian, retweeted photos mocking Jews as entitled people who “kill, rape, smuggle organs & steal the land of Palestinians.” SJP chapters have also used Nazi-like propaganda and comparisons of Israelis to Nazis, another hallmark of antisemites.

UCLA did object to the group’s using the UCLA logo on its announcements, but how far do you really think that that will go:

UCLA does deserve one iota of credit for sending a cease and desist letter to National SJP for creating the impression that the university endorses the conference by advertising it with the UCLA logo.

The story closes with a statement by UCLA professor, Judea Pearl. You might recall that Pearl’s son, Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl was decapitated by Khalid Sheikh Mohammed in the days immediately following 9/11.

Prof. Pearl has the last word:

I have served on the faculty of UCLA for 49 years and I have never thought I would see the day when the symbol of my university would turn into a Hamas recruitment poster. The NSJP Conference reminds us that hate did not stop at Pittsburgh. U.S. campuses, emboldened by our blindness and inaction are now offering racist groups a fertile ground to spawn their venom, test out intimidating tactics, and gain academic legitimacy. The stench of hatred and sounds of incitement to hostilities that will emerge from the NSJP Conference will damage UCLA’s reputation irreparably.

Dr Hate'em Bazian is a notorious anti-semite and bigot. He created controversy by referring to "Ashke-nazi" and "organ-smuggler" Jews in a tweet he now claims was "inadvertent". But the same tweet would have been received with gracious indulgence, if not agreement, at his alma mater, SFSU.

Hate'em is also co-founder of a joke college and fatwa factory, Zaytuna College, an institution that the ever-reliable Washington Post compared favorably and with a straight face to Notre Dame and Georgetown. Za'toona has one BA track, Islamic Law and Theology, and one MA track, Islamic Texts. (They probably need a statistical consultant. Dr Ford, call your office.) Za'toona boasts 50 students and 20 faculty members, a ratio that seems high given the $12000 tuition. One wonders where the money comes from.

BTW, rumor has it that the entire student body will be drafted onto a future football squad, the Za'toona Nailbombs.

DiD, very nice you mentioned that. You have a keen sense of moral acuity I admire and struggle with myself, it is a lesson to observe your continuous, effortless reiteration.

Instead of singling out Jews, this Bazian should have acknowledged that any group large enough has its share of "organ-smuggler" these days. It is an unhappy thought and isn't a feature exclusive to any individual ethnic group.

I suspect anti-Semitism has been at UCLA for some time.
